I approach painting in a similar way to the way I approach drawing; I'm drawn in by making marks and experimenting with them.
Painting allows me to experiment broadly with color and texture in ways that are not available with drawing alone. When I am interested in a specific subject, such as Family Histories, I am usually drawn to painting.
The paintings in Family Histories are taken from family photographs. Painting them takes me into them in a way that viewing alone does not. While I paint I inhabit the world and the subject at the time the photo was taken. It is at once nostalgic and enlightening.
